Arlene Ratzabi, Librarian

Welcome to the Bella M. and Harry Richter Memorial Library! We now have a really beautiful home and lots of new books. The library is completely automated and you may search online or in the library on one of our new laptops! Once you have opened the catalog, there is a drop down menu that allows you to search for a publication by author, title, subject, etc.

The library hours are flexible but generally someone is there on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. If you need to borrow a book from the library at other times, you may contact the librarian at or call the synagogue office at 718.591.5353 and they will help you.

The mission of the Harry and Bella M. Richter Memorial Library is to enable our congregation to experience the feelings of joy, spirituality, and community through the use of a comfortable, friendly, and relevant Judaic library. The library collection is designed to meet the Judaic needs of our congregational community and Religious School, and will strive to provide a wide variety of print and multi-media materials that will help our members live and experience Jewish life in a creative and personal way.

The library is available for congregants, students, teachers, clergy, and staff members to read, browse, relax, question, learn, and explore the library resources with the assistance of a librarian, volunteer, or each other. Further, it is the mission of the library to provide intellectual and social stimulation through a positive library experience that will further enhance each individual’s identification with Judaism.

Programs such as the ICCJ Book Café, where a notable book of Jewish interest is discussed, supplement and enhance the vast array of educational and social activities and events offered at Israel Center of Conservative Judaism as well as with the Religious School and Adult Education curriculums. Guest authors are invited each year to talk about their books and background. An annual Book and Gift Fair is held during Jewish Book Month. The Library has recently begun a yearly Joint Program with ICCJ Sisterhood to highlight an author or specific subject.

ICCJ Book Café

The ICCJ Book Café conducts lectures and discussions on books, and shows films covering a wide variety of subjects.
