Sports Clinic Mission Statement
The Sports Clinic Program came to life 14 years ago when some of the children wanted to play in the gym while their parents were in services. At that moment an idea was introduced by Butch Rubin to bring in Paul Gorel (who still runs the program) and Larry Welgrin to get Jewish children off the couch and video games and into a program that taught swimming and incorporated a Swim and Gym program that encouraged exercising while having fun and learning. Along with the backing of Mark Freilich and the rest of the Israel Center of Conservative Judaism board members, the Sports Clinic was born. The Sports Clinic Program not only continues to thrive today thanks to the continued support through the years of the Synagogue’s Presidents and board members; but has also seen the return of many of its previous students as today’s instructors and staff.
